đA Personal Reflection: Cycles and Courage
Shared anonymously by a survivor
“As I read this blog, something inside me breaks open.
This topic hits closer to home than I expectedânot just because of what Iâve seen, but because of what Iâve lived.Domestic violence doesnât always start with usâit can echo through generations.
I didnât grow up in a home where safety was guaranteed. I watched my mother endure what no one should, but we werenât just witnesses to our motherâs pain.
We were part of it. Verbal, mental, and physical abuse from both parents shaped our childhood.
And years later, to see my sisters reliving the same patterns and to see the next generation quietly absorbing the same battles we once fought.
Itâs heartbreaking. Itâs heavy. And itâs hard to talk about because it’s deeply personal.Today, as I read this blog, I find myself cryingânot just for what we went through, but for what weâre still trying to unlearn.
The silence.
The shame.
The belief that love means enduring harm. But I also cry with hope.
Because I know there is help.
There is a way out.
There is healing.Iâm sharing this not to reopen wounds, but because someone out there needs to know:
You are not alone.
You are not crazy.
You are not to blame.
And you do not have to repeat the story you were handed.Domestic violence isnât just bruisesâitâs the silence, the confusion, the emotional wounds that linger long after the shouting stops.
Itâs the way you learn to shrink yourself to survive.
Itâs the way you carry guilt that was never yours to hold. And yet, there is help.
There is healing.
There is a way out.
Cycles can be broken.I pray this message reaches someone whoâs still in it.
Someone whoâs scared to name it.
Someone whoâs wondering if itâs âbad enoughâ to ask for help.It is.
You are.
And you deserve safety, peace, and love that doesnât hurt.
And your courageâwhether loud or quietâis real.”

There is hope and freedom at the end of the storm.
No matter how long it takes, your strength is still within you â waiting to rise again.
Donât give up. Fight to get yourself back.
