💜A Personal Reflection: Cycles and Courage
Shared anonymously by a survivor

“As I read this blog, something inside me breaks open.
This topic hits closer to home than I expected—not just because of what I’ve seen, but because of what I’ve lived.

Domestic violence doesn’t always start with us—it can echo through generations.
I didn’t grow up in a home where safety was guaranteed. I watched my mother endure what no one should, but we weren’t just witnesses to our mother’s pain.
We were part of it. Verbal, mental, and physical abuse from both parents shaped our childhood.
And years later, to see my sisters reliving the same patterns and to see the next generation quietly absorbing the same battles we once fought.
It’s heartbreaking. It’s heavy. And it’s hard to talk about because it’s deeply personal.

Today, as I read this blog, I find myself crying—not just for what we went through, but for what we’re still trying to unlearn.
The silence.
The shame.
The belief that love means enduring harm.

But I also cry with hope.
Because I know there is help.
There is a way out.
There is healing.

I’m sharing this not to reopen wounds, but because someone out there needs to know:
You are not alone.
You are not crazy.
You are not to blame.
And you do not have to repeat the story you were handed.

Domestic violence isn’t just bruises—it’s the silence, the confusion, the emotional wounds that linger long after the shouting stops.
It’s the way you learn to shrink yourself to survive.
It’s the way you carry guilt that was never yours to hold.

And yet, there is help.
There is healing.
There is a way out.
Cycles can be broken.

I pray this message reaches someone who’s still in it.
Someone who’s scared to name it.
Someone who’s wondering if it’s “bad enough” to ask for help.

It is.
You are.
And you deserve safety, peace, and love that doesn’t hurt.
And your courage—whether loud or quiet—is real.”
