💜 Survivor Story: “Breaking the Chains of Abuse”
When Ana B. Gonzalez sent us her story, it was long, painful, and full of strength — seventeen years of surviving and healing. Every line carried the voice of someone who refused to give up.
What follows is a shortened version of her story, shared with her permission, told as closely as possible in her own words.
“I went from an abusive childhood to two long domestic violence relationships. The second relationship, I thought I had found love, but instead, I found lies, addiction, and control. He made me believe I was the problem — until I realized I was not. It was years of his abuse, drug, and alcohol use until I said no more.”
When I escaped, I lost everything — my home, my car, my safety. I was homeless, working Uber and DoorDash to feed my kids, sleeping in the car while trying to stay strong. But God kept showing me I could rebuild.
I started selling food, saving money, and step by step, I got a car, a roof, and stability for my children. My healing didn’t come easy, but I learned to love myself again. I learned that leaving was not failure — it was freedom.
Today, I am standing, working, dreaming, and healing. I have my home, my faith, and my children. And most importantly, I have me back.”
Today, she stands as proof that even after years of abuse and loss, it is possible to rebuild, to rise, and to love yourself again. Her story is a testament to survival, faith, and the unbreakable will to live free.
With deep respect and gratitude to Ana B. Gonzalez for allowing us to share her story of strength and renewal.
